The new TW4000 LRV´s for Hanover: KIEPE supplies the e-system
Hanover is a KIEPE city. Our electrical systems ensure safe and reliable operations for 153 TW3000 light rail vehicles (LRV). The ÜSTRA Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG also relies on us for service and maintenance.
Starting in 2026, the next generation of LRV´s, the TW4000, will be produced by the vehicle manufacturer CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles). ÜSTRA has ordered a total of 42 vehicles, and KIEPE technology will be on board.
We are responsible for delivering the entire electric system, including control technology, traction systems, auxiliary power supply, and driver’s cabin equipment (Human-Machine Interface).
The combination of state-of-the-art technology and proven but enhanced components will make the LRV more efficient, safer, and more comfortable—a win-win-win for operators, driving staff, and passengers alike.
The first devices will be delivered to the CAF factory in Reichshoffen at the turn of the year 2025/26. Preparations are already in full swing, with current priorities including:
▶ Prototypes of KIEPE components have been manufactured, tested, and will soon be presented to CAF. After approval, series production will begin.
▶ Together with CAF and ÜSTRA, we are fine-tuning the requirements for the train control management technology to start software development.
