eBus HPC powertrain platform offers a wide range of electric bus solutions
Düsseldorf, September 24, 2025 - KIEPE, a pioneer in electromobility for rail and bus, is presenting efficient traction solutions for advanced electric buses with a length of up to 36 meters at Busworld Europe 2025 in Brussels. One highlight is the latest generation KIEPE Traction Inverter (KTI), which is installed in the new electric buses built by BMC. The BMC PROCITY+ EV series celebrates its world premiere in Brussels. KIEPE also presents a trolley bus upgrade package for the cost-efficient conversion of a battery electric bus to an IMC® trolley bus. KIEPE will be present at Busworld Europe 2025 (October 4-9, 2025) at booth 1177 in hall 11.
KIEPE has leveraged its expertise in traction systems, software, and engineering to consistently develop innovative technologies that are designed to pave the way for an emission-free bus fleet. Ulrich Lauel, Vice President Global Sales Systems at Kiepe Electric, is looking forward to the professional exchange at Busworld on specific application possibilities: "The market demands energy-efficient electric bus concepts, and that's what we deliver. Our collaboration with BMC shows how our traction expertise is being successfully implemented in electric buses. Our modular eBus HPC Powertrain platform also opens up numerous options for new and existing vehicles, transforming the challenge of
e-mobility into a real opportunity for the future. We provide our customers with reliable support throughout the entire life cycle of their vehicles."
KIEPE e-Drive unit makes new BMC PROCITY+ 12 EV one of the most efficient in its class
With precise engineering and intelligent, energy-efficient traction hardware, KIEPE sets standards in electromobility. The latest example of this is the KIEPE eDrive Unit, which consists of the KIEPE Traction Inverter (KTI), the KIEPE Energy Control Unit (ECU), and an electric motor. The traction unit was implemented in an electric bus project for Turkish commercial vehicle manufacturer BMC.
The KIEPE Traction Inverter (KTI) is the technological heart and a central drive component of the new battery electric bus. Its key features include powerful torque dynamics, low energy consumption, and strong climbing ability of the electric vehicle. The cybersecure KTI complies with ISO 26262, the standard for safety-related electrical systems in motor vehicles. In combination with the Energy Control Unit (ECU), which intelligently controls auxiliary units such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, the vehicle's energy consumption is significantly reduced.
KTI, ECU, and the electric motor, are powering in the BMC PROCITY+ 12 EV and 18 EV electric buses. As a system partner, KIEPE has developed a drive system that allows the KTI and the electric motor from the VEM Group to work together in perfect synergy. The result is one of the most energy-efficient electric buses in its class, with a range of up to 490 km, a maximum charging power of 400 kW, and top marks in the E-SORT test cycle for energy consumption. The PROCITY+ 18 EV electric bus will be on display as a world premiere at the BMC booth (Hall 3, Booth 306).
eBus HPC powertrain platform: six modules for customized electric bus solutions
The KTI is also a fundamental component of the modular eBus HPC (High Power Charging) powertrain platform. This complete solution for electric buses up to 36 meters in length comprises six modules that can be adapted and integrated individually or as a complete system: Traction, Power Distribution, Auxiliary Power Supply (APS), Battery Systems, Charging Systems and Vehicle Control. These components can be tailored to the unique requirements of each customer.
The eBus HPC powertrain platform offers two key applications: one for new electric buses and the other for upgrading electric buses to trolley buses using IMC® technology. KIEPE implements both as an internationally experienced system integrator.
KIEPE’s modular eBus HPC powertrain platform opens new perspectives for vehicle manufacturers in the electrification of public transport. The platform achieves charging power of up to 810 kW and short charging times, enabling 24/7 operation. The high charging power allows the installation of smaller batteries – and thus reduces the total bus weight – which in turn increases passenger capacity and energy efficiency. Complemented by cybersecure systems and AI-based fleet management software, the platform ensures an intelligent, safe, and future-proof overall system.
The Trolley Bus Upgrade Package enables the conversion of a standard battery-electric bus into a trolley bus with In Motion Charging (IMC®) technology. Just two additional components, the KIEPE Isolating Converter (KIC) and KIEPE Smart Current Collector (KSC), create the connection between classic battery bus technology and overhead lines and enable flexible mixed operation.
The KIEPE Isolating Converter (KIC) is a galvanically isolated DC-DC converter that is designed to meet the requirements of an overhead line on the input side and can establish a safe connection between battery bus components and the overhead line. By using the KIC as a battery charger, an electric bus can be converted into an IMC® electric bus.
The KIEPE Smart Current Collector (KSC) is a current collector for modern IMC trolley buses that supports automatic wiring with maximum control dynamics. The trolley bus upgrade package gives OEMs the opportunity to open new markets.

KIEPE is headquartered in Düsseldorf and has built an international reputation for its efficient and ecologically sustainable electrical equipment. The company has been supplying powertrain and traction solutions for light rail vehicles, subway trains, regional trains and electric buses fitted with In Motion Charging (IMC) and High-Power Charging (HPC) systems since 1906.
