Wuppertal suspension railroad successful: 99.1 % availability

The Wuppertal Suspension Railway is an iconic landmark of the city of Wuppertal. In early January, the operator, Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW), announced that it had achieved an impressive 99.1% reliability of the suspension railway in 2024. The number of disruptions was reduced by a full 10%, and the duration of disruptions is now only 20 minutes.

This was made possible through the hard work and dedication of all those involved. The Wuppertal Suspension Railway is a monorail that connects the districts of Oberbarmen, Barmen, Elberfeld, and Vohwinkel over 13.3 km. KIEPE Electric delivered 31 new, lightweight vehicles with modern technology to WSWmobil GmbH, including a new train control system and complete electrical equipment (drive, heating, air conditioning, doors, brakes). The vehicles, developed according to CENELEC standards, are designed for DC 750 V and reach a top speed of 60 km/h.
